Recipe: Golden Milk

December 5, 2017

I haven't found the golden ticket, but I did find golden milk!

As I value health, I try my best to maintain a balanced diet.  If you ever hear me say, I am on a diet, this just means I am eating extra healthy.   Luckily, never have I resorted to a gimmick weigh-loss diet.  I just don't believe in them.  Coming from someone who has always been slender, I believe in a mindful and active lifestyle.  My morning routine consists of a hot cup of green tea which I alternate with other drinks like vegetable smoothies, Mexican hot chocolate and Golden Milk.

Golden Milk originated in India where it has been used as alternative medicine known as "Ayurveda" or life-knowledge.  This beverage contains tumeric, a spice that is becoming more and more popular.  Scientific research confirms its health benefits and many people swear by it.

I was introduced to golden milk at a food expo held in a Disneyland hotel.  I kid you not, Monarch products was ladling Golden Milk out of a silver bowl.  Gold is my favorite "color" so naturally I buzzed directly to it.  It was so good,  I felt like a baby again, sucking warm milk from my mother's bosom... because we have all been there.  After the third refill, I further pestered the rep by asking for the recipe.  Common sense, I took a photo of it.  The recipe is super easy to make—baby level.  All this Golden Milk needs is a proper glass, like a chalice perhaps.

After following their recipe at home, I found that the spices were too strong and not as smooth as I remembered.   I made changes and would like to share with you, how I make it.

Golden Milk Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup almond or coconut milk

1 tbsp ground tumeric

1 tsp ground ginger

1 dash ground cinnamon

1 dash black pepper

1 spoonful of honey

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in small pot, except for the honey.  Simmer for about 5 minutes and whisk to blend all ingredients.  Serve warm and stir in the honey.
